46 km bike ride

On Sunday my Dad and I decided that we would go for a bike ride. The day before we had biked down to the beach and back, so we thought we would try something a step up from that: crossing a bridge. We biked all the way to the edge of Burnaby to go across the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge. Ok, I discovered that I don't like biking over bridges. The path was very narrow and out of the corner of your eye you can see the water down below you. It felt like if I wasn't careful I would end up falling off into the water!

After getting into North Van we managed to find a Subway for lunch. With a bit more fuel we, for some reason or another, decided to go back via the Lion's Gate Bridge... This involved a rather long bike ride to get there, but we finally made it. We chose to walk across the bridge, which was better than biking but took forever!

Once into downtown we made another stop at Tim Horton's and then finished up with yet another bridge (Burrard Street Bridge) and the long trek up 8th Ave and the 8th Ave hill. After all that there were a couple times I felt like I couldn't make it, except that I had to get home to go on google maps to see how far we'd gone. It is pretty cool how you can make your path and it will tell you how far it was. There is even a bike option in Vancouver so you can choose the bike paths. Here is our trip:

Gibsons

Haydn has been here with us for the past week, and so we have had the chance to be tourists in Vancouver. We've been to Stanley Park, out to Richmond to walk along the dikes, to the Maritime Museum, walking in the UBC Botanical Gardens...

On Saturday we were visiting in Gibsons, and I just wanted to share the view we had while eating lunch and dinner! It was beautiful, and all of us spent a lot of time enjoying it (when not playing with the baby).

Job Accepted!!

I talked on the phone yesterday morning with one of the people from HR. Then I signed my contract, scanned it and sent it off to them! It was exciting this morning to have emails from the three people I have talked to/been interviewed by welcoming me to their school and saying they were happy I'd accepted. Next week they will start the "onboarding process." This means getting lots of information from them and giving them all the information they need. They do a lot of the "stuff" for me, like getting a bank account, social insurance number, etc. And luckily because of my British passport I don't have to apply for a visa! The main thing I have to do is find housing. They have sent me a website to use, but it is all in german... They gave me some instructions and soon I will get a buddy to help answer my questions. I hope I find something nice!!
