Frankfurt Christmas Market

This afternoon I went to the Christmas Market in Frankfurt for the first time. Unfortunately not with a friend as I'd planned as her daughter got sick. It was amazing and I can't wait to go back! I went for 4:30 pm because they had all the church bells ringing to celebrate the first weekend of the Christmas market and the first day of Advent tomorrow. It was amazing, I just stood in a corner of the Römer and listened. I took some videos, and the sound actually turned out well so you can listen too!

I had bought some of the chocolate popcorn that they sell everywhere and so I listened and munched and enjoyed the bells. There are about 4 churches right by the Römer and so the sound was amazing. They started by each taking a turn and then they all rang together for quite a while. The whole performance was over half an hour.

The Christmas market itself was also great, although so crowded! I enjoyed looking at all the different things for sale, both crafts and food. One common thing were these heart cookies. You can get them with all different things written on them. Here is a photo of one stall:

And some more photos of the market and the carousel. The market is huge by the way. It goes all the way from the Zeil (from Hauptwache) to the Römer and behind towards the cathedral. I can't wait to check it out again!
In the picture on the right you can see in the background the sign for Glühwein (mulled wine) :)

  1. WOW, that market looks like amazing, and magical with all the twinkly lights and old world with the bells playing. Your blog entry made me feel like it's time for Christmas - thank you!
